January 19, 2004 By: Sharon Madison Jim Furyk and Strata® Tour Ace™ win 103rd U.S. OpenJim Furyk racked up a host of firsts Sunday, en route to winning the U.S. Open Championship. Using the STRATA TOUR ACE, it was Furyk’s first major championship, his first victory of the season (after posting 10 Top 10 finishes), and his first win as a father on Father’s Day! Not to mention keeping his first place status on the PGA Tour with 11 Top 10 finishes. In tying the all-time U.S. Open scoring record (272), Furyk carded a 67-66-67-72 on his way to the U.S. Open Championship using the STRATA TOUR ACE of spadesª on the final day. For the STRATA TOUR ACE, a four-piece, multi-layer construction ball, it was the golf ball’s second major championship in as many weeks. John Jacobs used the STRATA TOUR ACE to win the 64th Senior PGA Championship last week, with rounds of 68-69-71-68--276 to finish four under par at the Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania. Furyk, an eight-time PGA Tour winner, who was playing in his 32nd major and 260th TOUR event overall, made two key changes this year in his product selection with the STRATA TOUR ACE and now the “BIG BEN” BEN HOGAN® by Bettinardi putter. "I’ve been pleased all season with my ability to control shots around the greens, and I’ve seen a great increase in my distance using the STRATA TOUR ACE. It’s put me in the position to win before, but to take home the U.S. Open was a sweet, sweet Father’s Day gift."
