January 23, 2004 By: Wayne Guest 3M Championship donates clothingThe 3M Championship senior Professional Golf Association (PGA) tournament, held annually at the Tournament Players Club (TPC) golf course in Blaine, recently donated hundreds of new shirts, jackets, sweaters, hats and other clothing to children and families in need. The nearly 1,000 articles of clothing were presented to the Anoka County Board of Commissioners by Hollis Cavner, tournament director. "The tournament is all about charity," Cavner said. "We donate $1 million to charitable organizations, so when we had these extra clothes, we thought who better to have these clothes than kids in Anoka County? When I talked to the Anoka County Commissioners and they were so enthused about helping us distribute them, it was the natural thing to do." The clothing is being distributed to families in need through Anoka County's Human Services Division. Anoka County Board Chairman Dan Erhart accepted the clothing and expressed gratitude for having Cavner and the TPC in Anoka County. "Anoka County is extremely fortunate to have Hollis as a resident and community leader," Erhart said. "This donation of clothing is yet another example of how he and the TPC help to strengthen families and communities."
