Cards Hold Charity Golf Classic

The Arizona Cardinals hosted the Miller Lite/Cardinals Charities Golf Classic at the Sheraton Wild Horse Resort on Wednesday for the Cardinals Corporate Partners.

Players Levar Fisher, Frank Garcia, Nathan Hodel, Ross Kolodziej, Josh McCown, Ron McKinnon, Emmitt Smith and Robert Tate joined Head Coach Dennis Green and assistant coaches Rick Courtright, Bill Khayat, Kevin O’Dea and Cardinals alumni players Anthony Edwards, Tyrone Stowe, and Larry Wilson as the celebrity golfers in the afternoon tournament.

The coaches and players arrived at the Whirlwind Golf Club following a mid-morning two-hour practice at the Cardinals Training Facility in Tempe.

It was quite a switch from the field this morning to straight out here and fortunately I am with some guys who can really hit, stated Coach Green. I’m not usually out in the sun this long unless I am out fishing, but I am having a great time and enjoying things out here and it is for a great cause.

Green, who won his celebrity fishing tournament a few weeks ago said golfing isn’t exactly his forte.

I’m out here to mainly offer some encouragement, said a laughing Green. If we win, it is because of my teammates. They’ve carried me. I’ve made a few puts but that is about it.

With only one day of practice remaining of the three weeks of organized team workouts, running back Emmitt Smith said no matter how tired the guys may have been, they couldn’t pass up on a day of golf.

Golf is such a fun game and a fun sport and challenging as well, so any time you get a chance to come out here and play golf, I say take advantage of it, said the league’s all-time leading rusher. I’m just excited to be on the course really and hopefully get in a solid round of golf.
