Golf drivers, they have come a long way from the days of a gnarly stick !
The game of golf is a very old game and both the Chinese and Scottish laid claim to developing it first. The Scots generally hold that glory. They talk about a lonely shepherd playing with a club with a knotty end. This could be called the first golf driver. Golf drivers are used to hit the ball the farthest in a game. It hits the ball with the least amount of loft and is the longest and heaviest club in a set. Basically it is used to hit long, far and hard. It is also the first club usually used in a game, as it is the club used to tee off.
Over the years the golf driver has gone through many changes and no longer bears any resemblance to a gnarly stick, other than the basic shape. Manufacturers have taken it through a course of evolution striving for greater strength and lighter weight. Most golf clubhouse pro shops sell a selection of drivers and they are very willing to help you find the right one for you. Shopping online is also simple and allows the consumer a much wider range of products than most pro shops. They often display detailed diagrams of the products and information regarding the materials used in their construction.
For men, it is the most important club as their testosterone dictates that they must hit the ball a long way. Average men hit a driver 220 yards. Tiger Woods hits it 300. The golf driver is very important for distance.
