  • Toray develops carbon fiber prepreg for golf club shafts
Toray Industries, Inc. announced today that its aerospace industry experience with carbon fiber operations has led to the development of a technology that strengthens resin, which reinforces carbon fiber, and has, in turn, led to the introduction of "Tuf Beam," a shock absorbent carbon fiber prepreg that meets the demand for lightweight golf club shafts. "Tuf Beam," scheduled to be marketed in September, employs durable and stretchable resin that improves shock absorbency 20% in comparison with existing molded products. Golf club shafts molded with "Tuf Beam" are approximately 5% lighter than conventional shafts, yet are as strong, and allow incredible flexibility during the design stage. As proof, the shock absorbency of "Tuf Beam" has reduced dramatically the number of broken golf club shafts.

To enhance the shock absorbency of fiber-reinforced plastic products, a strong resin is required; however, existing technology corrupts the heat resistance and elasticity of resin at 80·With its technology that strengthens resin, Toray is able to maintain the heat resistance and elasticity of resin when molding "Tuf Beam," thereby realizing a superior shock absorbent golf club shaft.

Moviment Graffitti would like to remind the public that the proposed

  • The original Mini Golf Towel
The Original Mini Golf Towel, a practical and unique golf accessory poised to make a "big hit" in the golf world.  The Mini Golf Towel is a 7 X 7 inch golf towel, with an attached ball marker, that folds up and slips in your pocket. The company’s slogan, "Just putt it in your pocket" says it all.

"The Mini Golf Towel is not intended to replace your big golf towel," says John Paniccia, who came up with the idea in the summer of 1998, "but rather to complement it."   "The towel is especially handy when your ball and club head get covered with loose grass and dew, from those early morning rounds."   He adds, "Think about all the times you or a playing partner left a big golf towel on the green because you unhooked it, threw it on the ground, and then preceded to the next hole."

"We are very excited about the possibilities in the promotional products market for The Mini Golf Towel, says Sam Paniccia Jr., a partner in the venture.   "So many corporations buy corporate logo golf balls to give out to clients, but as soon as that ball is lost, so is the corporate logo.  " With The Mini Golf Towel, every time a client pulls it out of his or her pocket to mark and wipe their ball, they will see the company’s corporate logo.  "Which would you prefer to buy, a $6.99 sleeve of balls or The Mini Golf Towel with a one color logo for a suggested retail value of $1.89, it’s a no-brainer", says Sam.

  • Jim Furyk and Strata® Tour Ace™ win 103rd U.S. Open
Jim Furyk racked up a host of firsts Sunday, en route to winning the U.S. Open Championship. Using the STRATA TOUR ACE, it was Furyk’s first major championship, his first victory of the season (after posting 10 Top 10 finishes), and his first win as a father on Father’s Day! Not to mention keeping his first place status on the PGA Tour with 11 Top 10 finishes.

In tying the all-time U.S. Open scoring record (272), Furyk carded a 67-66-67-72 on his way to the U.S. Open Championship using the STRATA TOUR ACE of spadesª on the final day.

For the STRATA TOUR ACE, a four-piece, multi-layer construction ball, it was the golf ball’s second major championship in as many weeks. John Jacobs used the STRATA TOUR ACE to win the 64th Senior PGA Championship last week, with rounds of 68-69-71-68--276 to finish four under par at the Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania.

Furyk, an eight-time PGA Tour winner, who was playing in his 32nd major and 260th TOUR event overall, made two key changes this year in his product selection with the STRATA TOUR ACE and now the “BIG BEN” BEN HOGAN® by Bettinardi putter.

"I’ve been pleased all season with my ability to control shots around the greens, and I’ve seen a great increase in my distance using the STRATA TOUR ACE. It’s put me in the position to win before, but to take home the U.S. Open was a sweet, sweet Father’s Day gift."
